Impact Statement: After Washington Lands Second 2024 QB Commit Caminong Welcomes Competition

Just before Halloween last year EJ Caminong committed to the Washington.  His recruitment took off after a big off season.

It’s been a wild month-long emotional ride for Caminong.  First, Sam Huard departing for Cal Poly.  Then class of 2023 Jaden Rashada of Pittsburg, California was rumored to be strongly considering Washington.  Rashada was the only remaining uncommitted  signal-caller in the top 50.

Rashada was only in consideration after Lincoln Kienholz flipped to Ohio State from Washington at the last second and Rashada’s NIL deal fell through at Florida, prompting him to back out of his pledge.

That was followed by the news that 2024 Folsom, California QB Austin Mack had entered the fray with rumors of him also strongly considering.  Many begann projecting Mack to UW.

There were dozens of QBs in the Transfer Portal, however, no QB would go into the portal to sit on the bench.  That meant that the Huskies would have to find a way up fill the roster with QBs elsewhere.

Caminong was rightly concerned that his scholarship offer could be pulled.  It happens all the time.  So he met with Washington coaches Ryan Grubb and Kalen DeBoer at Garfield High to see where things stood.

”I really just wanted to make sure they were dropping me,” he said.

The coaches assured him that he still had a spot.

“Competition’s going it come regardless,” he told RealDawg.com after his meeting with the coaches.  “Everything is fine.”

EJ is working towards enrolling in January to kickstart his Husky career.

If he handles on-rushing defenders as well as he handled the last month of quarterback drama he will do just fine in the purple and gold
