Husky Receiver Coach Loves Competition Coming to his Room

Husky Receiver Coach Loves Competition Coming to his Room

Junior Adams spoke with the media today about where things stand in the receiver’s room going into 2020, and who’s ready to have an impactful year.

Here’s some bullet-points from that discussion:

** Adams spoke about the progression of Tyrell Bynum throughout the past season, and said he’s looking forward to seeing Bynum “take that next step”.

** Coach also said he expects to the see the new offense (under John Donovan) more physical, “That’s one thing we’ve been preaching”, he said, but he is optimistic about seeing a more vertical game.

** Adams said Jalen McMillan will bring a lot of speed to the roster, “There’s not a route he can’t run”, he said of McMillan, “He has a competitive nature”.

** He was also asked about Rome Odunze and what kind of impact he can have, “His stats were right”, he said of Odunze when he was being recruited, noting that he’s 6-3, 205 and ran a 10.6 in the 100. One thing Adams likes about Odunze is his “run after catch” abilities.

** As far as who could impact the team in 2020, Adams talked about Ty Jones, “I expect him to have a really good year for us”, and Jordan Chin who made “critical plays” during the season. Also Marques Spiker and Austin Osborne, “Austin is waiting for his opportunity and had a good a off-season”.

** I asked Adams about what he first noticed about Puka Nacua at camp last year, “He competes for the football”, he said, “He’s a moment-of-truth guy….also it’s his mindset. He’s an ultra-competitor”.

** As for what the coach looks for when determining who to play and who to redshirt, he said it’s about who can “make plays on a consistent basis”. As well as knowing the schematics.

** Adams said that the feedback he’s gotten about John Donovan from recruits has been positive and they love talking to him.

** With the draft coming up, Adams was asked about Aaron Fuller, “Anything can happen”, he said, “A lot of guys like him…his tenacity and football IQ. He’s a really crafty player.”
