It’s no secret that the first two games of 2022 were challenging for Husky fans, with a 7:30 start against Kent State, and then poor air quality conditions for the Portland State game. Neither of those factors will be in play against the #11 Michigan State Spartans on Saturday. As of about noon on Friday, there are hundreds, probably thousands of tickets still available no matter what site you look at. This is the biggest matchup Husky Stadium has seen since #7 Stanford in 2016, and the first ranked non-conference opponent on Montlake since #20 BYU came to town in 2018.
ABC has made this their primetime game of the week (even though two members of the broadcast team have a less than stellar relationship with this fanbase) and Husky fans need to show the country that the University of Washington has one of the Pac-12’s premier fanbases. If fans can figure out a way to snap up all the remaining tickets and sell out the stadium before beating the Spartans, that could erase a lot of memories of the Jimmy Lake era.
Even though the first two games have been against less than stellar opponents, head coach Kalen DeBoer has shown that the team has a different look, style, and vibe under his leadership. “We need Husky Nation out here in a big way on Saturday,” he said at his weekly press conference on Monday. He emphasized that the team needs to do their part to show the fanbase that the team is exciting and fun to watch, and that he “knows what it’s like” from the wrong sideline when Husky Stadium gets rocking.
“I know how much of a problem it can be when it’s that loud for an opposing offense… its been a fun environment but I know there’s still a lot more that we can have. We have the motto ‘No Limits’ for our team this year, and I guess the only real limit is capacity,” he said. “I would just challenge the fanbase to not have any limits to what this can be this season.”

With a limited number of students on campus, it’s on the fanbase to show up and send a message to the team and the staff that they’re fully behind them. There are only seven opportunities to do that every year, and Husky fans need to take full advantage of each and every one of them. With the theme being a “Purple Out,” there’s a chance to send a message to not only this team, but to the nation, who will have all eyes on Montlake for a good reason for the first time in a while.
