Husky DBs are getting noticed leading up to the NFL Combine

In the lead-up to every football nerd’s favorite event (myself included), the NFL Draft, comes every draft nerd’s favorite event, the NFL scouting combine. And in the week leading up to the combine, Washington’s two top prospects have been garnering a lot of attention from some of the top draft analysts in the media. Before the medical examinations and team interviews begin on Tuesday, NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah included both Trent McDuffie and Kyler Gordon in the top 20 of the latest update of his top 50 overall prospects for the 2022 NFL Draft.

Jeremiah included McDuffie at #12 overall, which is good for the second cornerback on his list behind Cincinnati’s Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner. Gordon clocked in at 20th overall, and the fourth corner, right behind LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr., who Gordon could vault over with a strong combine.

Gordon also received high praise from ESPN’s Matt Miller, who couldn’t be more accurate when he called him the “most athletic overall player in the ’22 Draft.”

This is a huge week for both Gordon and McDuffie, who are looking more and more like first-round locks every day. They’re both going to interview very well, and with a lot of questions surrounding Stingley, mainly injury-related concerns. Stingley also announced that he won’t be participating in any of the on-field testing at the combine, which will make Gordon’s performance this weekend even more important.

Both players have a chance to show off their elite athleticism this weekend, and can assert themselves in the history books by being the fourth pair of cornerbacks from the same school drafted in the first round since 2000, and would make Washington the third school to produce a pair of first-round corners in the same draft.
