It was announced this morning that the Huskies will travel to Reno to face Nevada in an exhibition game on October 21 at 3 p.m. All proceeds from the exhibition will go to the Northern California Wildfire Relief fund. It’s aimed mostly for the Carr Wildfires.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to raise money for such a worthy cause,” said head coach Mike Hopkins. “It will also give us a good feel on where we are at before the season starts as we’ll get real game competition against a very talented Nevada team.”
The exhibition will give the Huskies a good gauge of where they are at before they kickoff the season on November 6 against Western Kentucky.
Nevada is coming off a season in where they made the Sweet Sixteen. The Wolf Pack are ranked No. 5 in Athlon’s preseason rankings. The veteran team has eight players on their roster that have averaged at least 13 points per game in a season at the Division 1 level.
The Huskies, another veteran team, could have four seniors in their starting lineup. Washington needed to add some height in the off season and they did just that – signing 7-foot center Bryan Penn-Johnson and 6-foot-11 Nate Roberts. Washington finished 21-13 in Mike Hopkins’ first season at UW. The Huskies are ranked No. 20 in in Athlon’s prseason rankings.
