Huskies Sign RaeQuan Battle and Marcus Tsohonis

SEATTLE –  University of Washington head coach Mike Hopkins signed two to the class of 2019 on Wednesday adding RaeQuan Battle and Marcus Tsohonis to the Husky Family.

“We’re really excited to add RaeQuan and Marcus to the UW program,’ said Hopkins. “They’re both Pacific Northwest guys that have had excellent high school careers up to now. They’re both proven winners and each bring a unique skill set to our program. They are the right fit for what we are looking for on and off the court and we couldn’t be more excited to have them joining our family.”

Battle is staying home as he comes to UW from Marysville, Wash. The four-star, 6-5 shooting guard competed at Marysville Pilchuck High School and led the Tomahawks to the Class 3A state regionals as a sophomore.

As a junior, Battle averaged 21.4 points and 8.0 rebounds leading Marysville-Pilchuck to a 19-5 record and the District 1 title, their first title in over two decades. Like fellow signee Tsohonis, Battle played for Seattle Rotary on the Nike EYBL circuit where he averaged 20.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg and 2.0 steals at the EYBL Indianapolis event.

“RaeQuan brings an exciting level of talent to our program and is one of the best shooters in the country,” said Hopkins. “He’s explosive athletically, his shooting ability will add a level of depth to our team and we can’t wait to have his skill set here at UW.”

Tsohonis, a 6-3 combo guard from Portland, Ore., played at Jefferson High School and was the Portland Interscholastic League Player of the Year as a junior, averaging 24.1 points, 7.4 assists and 6.2 rebounds per game. He helped Jefferson to a No. 1 ranking in Oregon as a junior and the Class 6A championship as a sophomore. For Seattle Rotary, Tsohonis averaged 12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season.

“Marcus is a high level combo guard with a great leadership ability and is one of the best passers that we’ve seen,” added Hopkins. “He will be able to help us take our program to the next level with his leadership. He played on a very talented team in Oregon and shined there so we’re excited he is bringing his game to Montlake.”
