Huskies Reel in Cali Catcher, Carson Blatnick

Huskies Reel in Cali Catcher, Carson Blatnick

Husky Baseball has had a great recruiting week; receiving a commitment from former WSU pledge, Will Simpson of Skyline, and now a commitment from another former Coug pledge, Carson Blatnik of Roseville, CA.

The scoop on Blatnick is that he’s a First Team All Metro catcher who’s skilled at getting out in front the plate if need be, has a strong throwing arm and has a good pop-to-pop (translated: the quickness with which a a ball hits the catcher’s mitt and then he throws it down to second base and a tag is made).

Of course, the catching position is the most brutal position on the field in terms of just the shear responsibility and leadership factor, and Blatnick has all those intangibles coming in.

Blatnick committed over the weekend to Washington, but wanted to release the news this morning.

A 2020 prospect, Blatnick is a left-handed batter who will sign in November.

Simpson committed to Washington on July 12th, after originally signing with Washington State and getting drafted by the Pirates but decided to forego the draft and, instead, go to Washington.

Simpson is a first-baseman — both he and Blatnick are big pieces to the puzzle for Lindsey Meggs and his team.

The Huskies advanced to the College World Series in 2018 but 2019 was a tougher year for the Diamond Dawgs; finishing 28-24 with no post-season advancement. Landing two notable recruits this week at key positions is just part of the re-load heading into 2020.
