Huskies rally late to beat the Cougars in Pullman

It was just one of those games that it looked like the Huskies were finally going to lose a game they were supposed to win. Playing a Washington State team that was 2-6 in their last eight games, UW was sleep walking most of the game. And when Noah Dickerson fouled out with over eight minutes remaining, with UW trailing 55-50, it didn’t look good. Just a few seconds later, Matisse Thybulle picked up his fourth foul. Jaylen Nowell also had four fouls at that point.

But despite foul trouble, scoring just 27 points in the first half, and being out rebounded 40-25, the Huskies beat their rivals, 70-65.

Washington finished with an 8-0 run over the final 2:13 of play. And with UW leading 66-65 with under one minute remaining, they put the ball into the hands of true freshman Jaylen Nowell, who weaved his way into the lane making a five-foot jump shot with 25 seconds remaining – giving UW a 68-65 lead.

The Huskies were sparked by sophomore Carlos Johnson, who scored 10 points, including eight coming in the second half. Johnson’s thunderous dunk with 7:36 remaining in the game, gave the Huskies back some momentum.

After scoring just 27 points in the first half, UW rallied big time in the second half, scoring 43 points and shooting 17-23 in the half.

Washington was led by Matisse Thybulle’s 17 points.

David Crisp finished with 15 points, Crisp scored 13 points alone in the second half. Jaylen Nowell also scored 15 points.

Noah Dickerson had a tough game fouling out with just 11 points and seven turnovers.

Washington improved to 12-4 on the season. Washington State falls to 8-7.

The Huskies host California next Thursday.
