Huskies Pummel Cougars in Apple Cup, 41-14

SEATTLE — Myles Gaskin ran for 192 yards and four touchdowns as the #15 Huskies cruised their way to a 41-14 victory over the #14 Cougars, but the Husky defense may have been an even bigger star in this show.

The Huskies stole the ball, picked off the ball, sat on Luke Falk, crushed Luke Falk — and basically tortured a Cougar offense that was in the top 5 nationally in passing yards.

There was never any question as to who the better team was in this game — and Washington suffered losses of two senior offensive players early in the game. Both Dante Pettis and Lavon Coleman were sidelined with “ankle sprains” before the first quarter barely got going.

The Cougars, on the other hand, kept all their pieces in place and it still wasn’t enough to overcome Washington.

Luke Falk, who’s set a Pac-12 record, threw three picks and spent a good deal of the evening on the turf, with one fumble that led to another Husky score. For the night, Falk was 37 of 55 (369 yards) — but the two late touchdowns came after the Huskies’ starters had rotated out.

Perhaps one of the brightest spots of the night came off the leg of Tristan Vizcaino, who nailed two field goals (44 and 34), continuing to make up for several misses throughout the season.

Washington will finish a second 10-win season in a row (last year they won 12), and will post the best win/loss record in the North, but a loss to Stanford took away the Huskies’ shot at being in the Pac-12 championship game again this year.

Washington State will finish the regular season 9-3 and third in the North.

Right now there’s no word on which bowl game the Huskies will attend this year, but that will be coming out by next week. Some pundits put Washington in the Alamo Bowl.
