Washington may have lost the game to St. Mary’s tonight at the NIT, but before the game began they had already won a battle in recruiting, landing 4-star center, Bryan Penn-Johnson of Mount Pleasant, Utah ((Wasatch Academy)
“I love the school I love the city and I love the team”, Penn-Johnson told Realdawg.com following the Huskies’ game against St. Mary’s.
Penn-Johnson is the nation’s #7 center, and at 7-0, 225 he’s just what the doctor ordered for a Husky basketball team that needs that big body in the middle.
Penn-Johnson visited Washington back in October, and with offers from schools such as Oregon, UCLA, Florida State, Kansas, Utah, DePaul, and Arizona, Penn-Johnson had narrowed his choices to UW, UCLA, and DePaul.
Washington’s class now is 5th in the Pac-12 and 28th nationally. The Huskies are a serious contender for the Pac-12 next year, with five players coming back on a team that basically over-achieved (and Noah Dickerson at his true position), Penn-Johnson will be a force to be reckoned with in the middle.
“I’m ready to bring it all at UW”, Penn-Johnson added.
What do the Huskies get with Penn-Johnson? He is a very athletic shot-blocker and shot-alterer. His 7’8.5 wingspan makes him a huge presence in the middle.
His choice to go to Washington had to music to Mike Hopkins’ ears going into tonight’s tourney game, and Penn-Johnson tweeted out his commitment and made it public:
Blessed beyond words to announce my commitment GO DAWGS!!!! pic.twitter.com/gxXlMQQjmz
