It didn’t take new tight end coach Durham Cato long to hit the road and find a 2020 tight end to offer who isn’t already committed elsewhere.
Cato began evaluating Nic Sani earlier this week and then went out to watch him workout on Thursday at Central Catholic High School in California.
Sani has had several offers from Ivy League schools because of his excellent academic accomplishments (4.37 GPA), but also because he is a darn good football player.
He did get an offer from San Diego State recently as well, but Washington’s offer opens a new door that he is anxious to explore before signing day.
“I really did like the idea of the Ivy League schools”, he said, adding that now he has an opportunity to get a strong education and some big-time football as well.
Cato saw what he wanted to see in Sani, and Sani spoke later with Jimmy Lake, “I really like Coach Lake”, Sani said, “I can’t wait to meet him.”
He won’t have to wait too long because he and his family will be heading out to Seattle Friday (tomorrow) and he will begin his 48 hour official visit to Washington.
The networks do a good job at finding talent, but there’s always guys who slip through the cracks — Nick Sani is one of them.
Sani is extremely bright and has the physical attributes of a D1 tight end; he’s 6-6, 245, has above-average blocking skills and he runs solid routes. He high points the ball over DB’s and uses that size to create mismatches.
Sani also plays center for his basketball team. We’ll have a full report on how his visit transpires over the weekend.
