Huskies lose some offensive depth

Just like in the middle of every coaching shuffle in college football, attrition is going to happen. The Huskies are not immune to it, and today they lost a few players that showed a lot of promise coming out of high school. The two redshirt freshmen will still have three years of eligibility remaining, and have a lot of potential to succeed under the right coaching staff.

The first is wide receiver Sawyer Racanelli. A former three-star recruit out of Hockenson, in local Brush Prarie, Racanelli was part of a star-studded receiver class in 2020, coming in alongside Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan. If not for a torn ACL that took away his senior season of high school, he probably would’ve more of an opportunity to contribute and earn his spot on the depth chart in 2020. Racanelli has the opportunity to be a serious mismatch in the slot, and should catch on at a new school rather quickly.

The other is tight end Mark Redman. A four-star recruit out of Corona Del Mar in California, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ended up with his former high school teammate and Husky, quarterback Ethan Garbers, at UCLA. Redman was held in very high regard among fans that follow recruiting very closely, and it felt like he just couldn’t make the leap on the timeline fans were hoping for. It also appears that Kalen DeBoer’s offense won’t feature tight ends as prominently as the old Husky offense, which could also explain the de-commitment of Chance Bogan.
