Washington is nearly done with the Class of 2021, so on to 2022. One of the new names to get used is that of Portland (Westview) wideout, Darrius Clemons.
The 6-3, 195 lb. receiver just ran a 4.37 at the MVP combine in Eugene over the weekend, and while he already holds 20 offers, his stock is going to continue to rise in the months ahead.
Washington has already taken notice, “I love it there”, Clemons told Realdawg.com on Sunday, “I like Washington a lot. I’ve been there four times already…I went to camp there last year and then went to two games, I also went there during the spring for unofficial trip.”
Junior Adams has already established a strong relationship with Clemons as well, “I’ve talked to him about it (a potential offer)”, he said, “I’ve probably seen more of him than any other coaches recruiting me because I’ve been there so many times.”
While most would assume that an Oregon kid would lean to Oregon, the fact that Clemons has been to Seattle so many times to check out Washington shows that there’s nothing to assume here — and if the Huskies offer that could put them high on his list.
“I saw Sam Huard at a 7-on-7 tournament and he was the best quarterback out there”, he said, adding that he’s also done some training with Alex Molden, the father of Elijah Molden; another Oregonian who bucked the establishment and went to Washington rather than Eugene.
So let’s talk about Clemons’ game.
The first thing that jumps out about it is Clemons’ speed and crisp routes. He’s able to high-point the ball easily and gets real good separation at just the right time. His size and speed are a deadly combo, and he has no fear going across the middle because he’s physically strong as well.
While some wouldn’t classify him as a “burner”, being 6 foot 3 and running a 4.37 (laser) is sick — he’s a burner alright, and a legitimate deep-threat.
Clemons is definitely a name to get used to as we turn our attention to the 2022 cycle, and you can expect to see his stock go up soon…
