WATCH: Hopkins says Husky MBB is “Excited” for Challenges

The Huskies open the 2019-20 basketball season on Halloween, and Mike Hopkins met with the media today to talk about the upcoming season, and what to expect.

** Coach Hopkins talked about the “new faces” on the team, and said that getting used to the defense on the court is “easiest part”. He said that “the most difficult thing is that every guy we have on offense has been the go-to guy” during their high school seasons. So a big focus is on the nuances and schematics of the offense.

** Larry Brown was recently on campus. Hopkins said that this was “getting a week at Harvard Business School” in terms of how Brown was able to point things out and offer advice.

** The team was in Italy during the month of August (where they finished 4-0 in the Foreign Tour) and Hopkins said a guy who really stood out was Nate Roberts. Roberts redshirted last season, but Hopkins said he brings “incredible energy” and that he is “one of the top rebounders on the team”. Hopkins also mentioned Jamal Bey, “We’re really excited about their growth”, he said.

** Hopkins emphasized the word “repetition”, and said that everyone learns at a different pace, but said “We’ve got kids that come to work everyday…excited to prove themselves.”

All in all, Hopkins said “There will be some challenges, but we’re excited for that.”
