Hawai’i 2021 D-Tackle Liked What He saw at Washington

Kamehameha lineman, Kuao Peihopa spoke to Realdawg.com today following his unofficial trip to Seattle over the weekend.

The 6-3, 280 lb. prospect had never been to Seattle before, but it definitely made an impression.

“It was real good, I liked it”, the soft-spoken d-tackle from Hawai’i said, adding that he enjoyed watching the Apple Cup and the crowd was “crazy”.

Peihopa was offered back in July, adding to offers from Wisconsin, Nebraska, Arizona State, Fresno State, Nevada, and Hawai’i.

Ikaika Malloe has been the the main coach recruiting Peihopa, and although he plays both sides of the line, defense will likely be where he lines up in college.

“Coach Malloe and I get along real well”, Peihopa said, and Peihopa had already told us that Malloe was the first coach he really spoke with.

Peihopa won’t say which schools are standing out right now, but said Washington has his “serious” attention, and that this will be a long process for him.

“(The highlight) was being there and being with my family”, he said, adding that he did have a chance to sit down with Coach Petersen and Coach Malloe and get a better feel how things are done at Washington.

Again, Peihopa is very soft-spoken, but what he does know is that Washington is a school he’s probably going to return to for an official trip and the Huskies are a serious contender.

He’s also a wrestler and, on the field, Peihopa is a dominating presence who hits hard, plays through the whistle, is big, physical, and quick. He’s still young but his ceiling is very high and he could develop into a big-time d-tackle heading into 2021 who has all the tools to get to the next level.

“I keep the heat on until the whistle blows”, Peihopa said.

Off the field he is as gentle as a lamb, on the field though Peihopa is a wolf who could wreak havoc on the interior.
