The Washington Huskies are 12-0 for just the second time in the history of the program. The 115th Apple Cup followed suit of the 2023 season with another nail biter that came down to the final seconds. Grady Gross’ 43 yard boot sealed the perfect season.
The Huskies have now won 19 straight games over the last season and a half and have won in many different ways. While the offense struggled in the cold but sunny weather, they did just enough to earn the coveted perfect season.
Quarterback
Michael Penix had an up-and-down afternoon. At times he was missing his receivers high for incompletions (earlier in the season those were completions).
He also connect on some passes that weren’t in the best spots, but was bailed out by players like Jack Westover.
While he did miss more passes than Husky fans are used to he threw for two touchdowns and made the throws needed to win the game.

Running Backs
Nobody who watches Husky games can say with a straight face that this team is one-dimensional. (Story continues below Podcast)
Dillon Johnson kept the Husky offense on the field with tough runs that could have been gains of 2-3 into 7 yard gains. Even hobbled by a foot issue Johnson almost racked up 90 total yards.

Receivers
There needs to be a different category for Rome Odunze. Odunze continues to show the nation that he is the best receiver in the country. He went over 100 yards for the 8th time this season and reeled in two touchdowns. His best play was as a running back on an 23 yard run on 4th and 1 with about a minute left in the game.
Other pass-catchers got involved but struggled to find a rhythm with Penix. Ja’Lynn Polk has now gone two straight games without a catch.

Tight Ends
All Jack Westover does is make huge plays in the biggest moments of the game. He continued that trend on Saturday with two huge catches in the second half.
Westover, Devin Culp, Quentin Moore, and Josh Cuevas were very effective in pass protection.

Offensive Line
The issues with the offense are not on the O-line. This line continues to protect Penix who was only sacked once.
