Former Michigan Wolverine, Giles Jackson will be back in Ann Arbor this fall, but this time he will have switched his colors from maize and blue to purple and gold.
The 5-9, 175 lb. receiver who has committed to Washington talked to Realdawg.com over the weekend about how he arrived at this decision.
“Washington was always my dream school growing up”, the former Freedom High School in California wideout said, “I’ve always wanted to play in the Pac-12.”
While Jackson did talk about a need to be a little closer to home, it’s no secret that Michigan had a rough season in 2020 (going 2-4 before cancelling the remainder of the season due to COVID), but in talking to Jackson — it seems this change was inevitable.
“I wanted to be closer to home and wanted more of my family to be able to come to the games”, he said.
So once that release was done, Washington came with an offer in hand.
“Just to be able to have the opportunity to play them is a blessing”, he said, “And it’s a lot closer to home for me. I have a great bond with all the coaches and know a few players already over there. Also the opportunity to play with my little cousin, Vince Nunley is a dream true and it’s exciting.”
Jackson has also had an opportunity to see what Sam Huard and Dylan Morris can do, “I played him in 7 on 7 a couple years back and thought he as really good. I’ve met Dylan before; we met in Mexico at the World Bowl in high school and he was my quarterback.”
One area where Jackson is a true threat (aside from in the passing game) is on special teams; he is John Ross-esque in his ability to see the field and use his strength and shiftiness to take it all the way to the house.
So what if he returns the first kick off against his old team in Ann Arbor this fall?
“Should be really exciting honestly, and also a great game. I’m looking forward to playing against old teammates.
Right now Jackson has 3 to play two plus a COVID year, and will be enrolling in June.
