Game Week Notes, Quotes, and Video

Chris Petersen said his blood pressure is fine after a loss, until he has to go in and face the media on Mondays.

It’s a short week that will lead into another bye week, and Petersen isn’t showing any signs of a panicked coach because his team lost two games in a row to two top 10 teams.

With the Huskies traveling to Corvallis Friday to play the Oregon State Beavers, the coach met with the media this morning to field questions about where his team has been, where they are, and where they’re going.

Here’s a few highlights from that meeting:

** Petersen talked about how it’s hard to beat a team like Utah with three turnovers.

** He also mentioned that it was “hard to run the ball effectively”, particularly since half the Huskies’ tailback depth was sidelined due to injuries.

** Petersen talked about the problem being able to “finish” in the fourth quarter; this was an issue against Oregon as well.

** When asked about the appearance of wideout, Marquis Spiker, Petersen said he’s been practicing better and he’s a “rangy guy who can attack the ball”.

** On Terrell Bynum, Petersen said he’s been coming on strong. Said the ball is now just starting to come his way, “He’s done a nice job for a long period of time”.

** Petersen gave praise to his former assistant coach, Jonathan Smith, and said he’s been doing good things at Oregon State. He mentioned that the Beavers on a two-game winning streak and Smith is “building something”.

** When asked about this kind of tougher season effects their approach to recruiting, Petersen simply said it doesn’t. “It is what it is”, he said, “We’re not going to change anything (where recruiting is concerned).” And said that recruits look more that “body of work” of a program, rather than at one season.

The two-deeps for this week have not been released yet.
