Chris Petersen was in a surprisingly decent mood this morning, despite a tough weekend for the Huskies.
Petersen and the team got back to Seattle at around 4 AM yesterday morning and, after a few hours of sleep, the coaches were back in the office preparing for the Apple Cup.
Naturally, they had already reviewed tape of the Colorado loss on the plane ride home from Boulder, but Petersen said that it’s now on to the next game and the next opponent.
Here’s a few tidbits from what the coach had to say:
** He said there’s no “common theme” when the offense struggles.
** Temperament of the team: “There’s some energy out there”, he said, noting some “anger and frustration”. And that’s what Coach wants to see.
** Said this morning was a “spirited practice”
** Petersen said that the team “Should be competing for Pac-12 championship every year, that’s the goal.”**
** On Ty Jones; you have to ‘earn your stripes’, and said guys have to earn it in practice. He’s been doing well, but not necessarily over other guys.
** Petersen has never lost to Washington State, “I think the rivalry games are awesome”, he said.
** Coach Pete touched on the seniors, “Trey (Adams) has been through so much…I love that kid”, Petersen said. He also talked about Nick Harris, and he talked about recruiting those two players.
** He said Jacob Eason is an “awesome kid” and that he’s grown this year as a leader.
** Jaxon Kirkland is “alright”, Coach said, “it’s not a serious injury.”
** Coach Petersen said he gets out a kick out of Mike Leach, and smiled about the Cougar coach’s boisterous personality.
