Game Week Notes & Press Conference

Chris Petersen addressed the media this morning for his regular Monday press conference, and you can tell he’s racked his brains going back over what cost the Huskies a big win Saturday night.

** Petersen said the lightning delay didn’t make any more of an impact on the Huskies than it did on Cal. He said the guys were energized but, on the tackling issues, said they were “trying too hard”.

** He continued to show appreciation for the fans who stuck around.

** He said that clock management wasn’t the issue at the end as much as just getting stops on Cal’s last drive.

(Don James addressed a similar issue back in the day when the Huskies lost on a last minute drive against USC. A reporter asked James why he never called a timeout to let his players rest, his response was “If they want to rest they need to stop them.”)

** Petersen reiterated his praise for how well true freshman Laiatu Latu has been playing, “His whole mentality…how he works and how he competes…got a good vibe from him for a young guy”.

** Quinton Pounds is suspended and will not play for the next two weeks.

** Petersen is still being vague about the status of Ty Jones, but told us that if Jones has to miss the entire season he’d let us all know. He seemed a little annoyed about the guessing games on this from the media.

NOTES:

The BYU game is set to kickoff at 1:30 PM on Saturday, the 21st, and will air on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2 (TBD next weekend).
