Chris Petersen addressed the media this morning,on the heels of a painful loss to Stanford over the weekend on the road.
One subject he did touch on was that of Richard Newton, who went down in the third quarterback Saturday night at Palo Alto and had be helped off the field.
Anyone watching that game would have thought that Newton suffered a catastrophic injury, but Petersen was reassuring about Newton’s status, “It’s looks better (now) than when he was laying out there on the field”, he said, adding that Newton is seeing a specialist and, while his status is still unknown, it may not be as bad as it looked.
Speaking of tailbacks, Petersen repeated himself in saying that they should have run the ball more against Stanford, but in the second half he felt that it would take too much time and that the offense needed to score more quickly.
Stanford held the ball for 40 minutes and were beating Washington in time of possession.
** Petersen also said that third-down’s were a big problem for the offense, “That was one area where we got beat bad”, he said, “That was painful.”
** When asked about playing the younger receivers, Petersen said “They need to be more detailed, they’re making progress, they really are – they aren’t where the other guys are and are growing and getting better all the time. They’re young players. We’re not going to not put our young guys out there.”
** Petersen said he felt “It was a frustrating game for everybody involved, we were out-coached…They’re teams were better than our teams — that’s it — we had stuff that we left on the field.”
