It’s game week! Chris Petersen met with the media this morning and appeared to be in a relatively happy mood, with a little salt sprinkled here and there.
Here’s a quick rundown on some key points from his talk:
** He called the “timing” of Jake Haener’s departure “awkward”, and admitted that it was a little surprising based on that timing.
** Coach Petersen said all the quarterbacks had a good camp though, and said he’s now they’re working on who the back up and third-stringer will be.
** He said that he foresees “a handful” of true freshmen playing, and that with the four-game rule they will likely play freshmen DB’s, a linebacker, and mentioned Puka Nacua by name. Also, freshman defensive back Cameron Williams is listed as the starter against Eastern.
** Petersen chastised media members who were asking about injuries, stating that even if there was anything to report he wouldn’t answer those questions.
** He also mentioned the “tandem” of Hunter Bryant and Cade Otton, and talked about the importance of continuing to fill the tight end room and recruit to that position because of how the offense uses those tight ends.
** Petersen gave fifth year senior Kyler Manu big props for earning the starting spot, and said “he’s been able to play a lot of football for us…but I think it’s great to see a 5th year finally get his time to shine”
Here’s the two-deep (as of today) for the EWU game.
