Game Reaction: Huskies Get First Conference Win

Moses Wood’s three put the Huskies up 24-21 mid-way through the first half, and they never looked back. Oregon State put a little run together in the closing minutes but the Huskies held on for the 79-72 win. Keion Brooks Jr. led all Huskies with 26 points in a night where only eight players got minutes.

Oregon State went up in the early minutes holding a lead of up to seven points before the Huskies went on the only true run of the game to take the lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Brooks got help from double digit performances from Sahvir Wheeler (16), Wilhelm Briedenbach (11), and Koren Johnson (10). Offensively the Huskies struggled from three point land as they shot just 28.6% from beyond the arc. In almost every statistical category the Huskies barely edged out the Beavers and that summarizes the game pretty well. The Huskies were exceptional on their free throws as they hit almost 90% in what was otherwise a slightly above average performance.

UW did just what they needed to do to get an important conference win with a tough schedule ahead of them. While the Huskies now sit at 1-3 in conference the record doesn’t tell the whole story. Their largest loss was by just five points even while facing injuries. This slow start is nothing to worry about as this team has shown they possess the quality to make a run in the Pac-12. They have a good test on Thursday as they face an Arizona State team that is currently first in the Pac.
