The Legion of Zoom and DBU are teaming up with former Washington Husky and San Francisco 49er receiver DiAndre Campbell’s Warrior Academy for a unique football camp experience, July 15 from 9 am to noon.
The camp is called “Airborne Skills and Lockdown Secrets”.
”To ensure the most personal attention for each player we’ve limited spots to a total of 20 for each side of the ball.” said Campbell.
Joining Campbell on the offensive side of the ball is former UW receiver John Ross, now with the Super Bowl Championship Kansas City Chiefs. The pair were teammates of two years at Washington.
Opposite Campbell and Ross will be Alex Cook now with the New York Giants and Keith Taylor now with the Carolina Panthers the “Lockdown Secrets” portion of the camp.
For Campbell, this camp has been many years in the making. Following the 2013 Campbell didn’t feel that he would be utilized in Washington’s offense and had decided to become a graduate transfer.
He had both feet out the door until Steve Sarkisian took the head coaching job at USC. When Chris Petersen took over he liked what he saw in Campbell: 6-2, 206 pounds, a scholar, team leader, and student leader.
It took a bit of convincing, but Campbell decided to give the new regime a shot.
In the offseason he hit the weights and the field to revive his career. To do so he knew that he’d retune his body and refine his technique.
”I decided that in order to achieve my potential I needed to invest in myself,” he said. “I always knew that I could play at a high level so I had to take the next step upon myself.”
To redefine himself he made his next stop the gym where he made himself bigger, faster, and stronger. He also dialed into the nuances of being a receiver. The payoff was immediate as he returned to play for the Huskies that fall and has his most productive year in purple and gold.
He’s went undrafted after the season but ended up signing as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers.
“I proved that not only could I play at a high level, but the highest level,” he said.
Nine years later, the lessons that he learned both on the field and off come together in his Airborne Skills and Lockdown Secrets Camp.
RealDawg.com is awarding two scholarships for the camp.
“I’ve personally known DiAndre for over 5 years but I have followed his career and journey for much longer,” said RealDawg.com owner Mike Martin. “There’s not a person I respect more than him. I know each person at his camps receive top notch care, attention, and instruction but also inspiration from his story.”
RealDawg.com will profile each of the camp coaches before the camp.
