His announcement comes on the heels of his move from being an Edge Rusher to a defensive tackle.
“I actually got moved to d-tackle,” he said earlier this week, noting that he’s up to 290 pounds.
Shortly after the move, he decided to leave Oregon.
Against the Huskies, in two career games, he accrued a single assist on a tackle. As a redshirt freshman in 2021, he recorded 14 tackles including 1.5 sacks. The following year he had 11 total tackles and a sack.
It’s unclear if the Huskies will be in the market for a defensive lineman, but Ma’ae has several connections to UW.
Originally from Kapolei, Hawaii where he played varsity football until his senior year, he attended Bishop Gorman High School in 2018-19. He was a teammate of Washington receiver Rome Odunze for one season. Rated as the 5th best player in Nevada that year, with current Washington starting left tackle Troy Fautanu being number 1.
The Spring Transfer Portal window opened at midnight, on April 15, for fifteen days. Thus far, there are no know Washington players to enter the portal.
