First Quarter Summary

Kick-Off

The Huskies came out gunning pinning Michigan at their own 16 yard line. From the first play of the game we see Blake Corum getting the ball. McCarthy was pressured on his first drop back, getting leveled by Trice but completed the pass for a first down. Michigan went run heavy early but when they did drop back rushers got into McCarthy’s face. They finally got their sack as the entire defensive line converged on the Wolverines QB. Unfortunately the next play was a hand-off to Donovan Edwards, who broke 41 yards down the left side for a score and 7-0 Michigan lead.

Starting from the 25 the Huskies get Dillon Johnson moving forward early. Jalen McMillan completed a catch and run for a nice early gain. With Johnson injured Will Nixon got a healthy dose of touches early in the game. Tybo Rogers came in early and caught a third down screen seemingly dead to rights, but a broken tackle got a huge first down to keep the drive going. Rome Odunze got his first touch on a screen and took it for the first down, Jalen McMillan got an end around for 11 and the Huskies seemed to be moving the ball. After taking the first snap we hadn’t seen Dillon Johnson, but he reentered the game to block for McMillan then got the carry to set up. But the Wolverines stood tall as Penix missed Odunze on third and goal so Grady Gross was on to make it 7-3.

The Wolverines again attempt to return Gross’s kick, and again the Huskies coverage unit gets downfield setting Michigan up at their own 14 this time. Finally the Wolverines took their shot. Lining up for a run Roman Wilson gets space over the top for a gain of 37. It was Donovan Edwards again. The Michigan O-Line opened up a gigantic hole and it was 41 yards to the house for Michigan to go up 14-3. The Huskies run three plays and can’t get just 10 yards.

There is nothing the Huskies can do to stop the run. The Michigan O-Line is getting up field and Blake Corum takes it for 59 yards to end the quarter.
