Anquon Fegans thinks about his future a lot. The 4-star Washington Husky safety target affixes his eyes in the future to make himself a better football player and person in the here-an-now.
”I came on strong at the end of the season last year,” he recalled of his personal come-to Jesus moment a week into his junior campaign.
Indeed he did. In the first four games of the season the 6-1, 180-pound safety had zero interceptions. In week 5 he came alive.
“I stayed humble and talked to God,” Newboy (as he’s known around Alabaster, Alabama) said. “My favorite scripture says:
‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’
He put his trust in God’s plan and rededicated himself to to his teammates.
“I just put my head down and made sure that my teammates were getting the best version of me,” he said.
Newboy was a new man.
The two-time All-American had a personal turnaround game against Clay-Chalkville where he had 12 tackles and an interception. Thompson lost on a last-second field goal to the eventual state champions.
He finished the season with 7 interceptions, 11 pass breakups, and 4 forced fumbles to go with his 71 tackles.
A one-time USC commit, he has also visited Oregon but he would like to visit Washington, as well.
”I could see myself living on the West Coast,” he said. “It’s very unique.”
Being far from home won’t matter as much as finding a coach and a school that puts players in the NFL.
”I know Washington’s known for their DBs,” he said. “Coach Rich (new Washington DB coach) is my guy. I also have a great relationship with him.”
“His guy” tells him he likes that he’s rangy and athletic, as is evident in the clip below. (Story continues below tweet)

With his eyes fixed in his future, his off-season plans include 7-on-7 and “being a leader and growing with my team.”
He hopes to make it out westbound again to check out Washington. RealDawg.com will continue to track all developments in Fegans‘ recruiting.
