I spent the majority of this game building a night table and a bed frame. I think that should tell you everything you need to know about this game. Every week this season, fans have thought, “It can’t possibly get worse than this, right?” Wrong. On this week’s edition of the dumpster fire, Dylan Morris turned the ball over four times, and Colorado took advantage of those turnovers, totaling 17 of their 20 points off of Husky turnovers.
As the season has dragged on, honestly, what more is there to say at this point? The best offensive play of the day came from Ja’Lynn Polk when the Huskies were down by two scores. The defense gave up one third-down conversion all day long, the offense outgained Colorado 426-188, and Dylan Morris threw for 388 yards. If you just looked at the stat sheet without seeing a score, you’d probably think Washington won 27-10 or something with all the yards they gained. Yet they lost 20-17 to a now 4-7 Colorado team.
With the Huskies falling to 4-7 with the loss, they aren’t bowl eligible for the first time since 2009, the first year under Steve Sarkisian. Imagine reading this in August. This is the most talented team I’ve ever seen don the purple and gold, and I’m going to stick to that statement. This season is the epitome of why coaching is the most important thing in college football. Talent doesn’t matter if they aren’t put in the best positions to succeed, and this team clearly hasn’t been put in those positions.
It’s time to get up for the Apple Cup. This is the team’s bowl game now, and it’s up to the coaching staff to get them ready for it. And I’ll sleep soundly in my brand new bed as I dream of Sam Huard starting his first career game in purple and gold on Friday.
