PLAYERS WHO STOOD OUT:
-Salvon Ahmed-On a day where the offense was locked down most of the day by the defense, Salvon was able to break free on a few plays and show off his speed.
-Defensive Backs- The DB group showed why they are so highly regarded. If not for 4 dropped interceptions they would have been perfect today. The offense wasn’t really able to complete passes down the field at all. They also showed a great ability to come up and make tackles on runs, screens, and short crossing routes. After they set the tone Coach Lake started sending pressure, Gilchrist had 2 sacks, Cam, Elijah, and Keith has nice tackles for loss too. Today was overall a very impressive day for Coach Lake’s group.
PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR:
-WR Austin Osborne- Austin got an opportunity to play with the 1st team offense today. He has the size and quickness to be a nice impact receiver.
-DT John Clark- Today John Clark was with the 1st team defense for the 2nd straight practice. Maybe not a name many people know, but Coach Malloe mentioned him as a player who was practicing well when I talked to him earlier in camp.
WHO WON THE DAY?
Defense- The offense struggled to get explosive plays against the defense today. Besides a few good Ahmed runs the offense was limited to short crossing routes and screen passes. The defensive backs had a really good day as nothing was available deep, and they were coming up to make tackles on screen passes and runs in the backfield. If it wasn’t for four dropped interceptions the defense would have won in a blowout.
