Former Washington wide receiver and punt returner Dante Pettis has signed with the Chicago Bears.
At Washington, Pettis broke the all-time NCAA record for most career punt return touchdowns (9). The 6-foot-1, 195-pound WR, had 2,256 receiving yards and 24 receiving touchdowns at the University of Washington. Pettis was a consensus first-team All-American in 2017.
After being drafted in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers it’s been a bit of a slow start for Pettis. In four NFL seasons playing for San Francisco and the New York Giants, Pettis has recorded 52 catches, 739 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns. Pettis has just 41 career punt return yards in the NFL through four seasons.
With the departure of star wide receiver Allen Robinson, Dante Pettis finds himself in a perfect situation in Chicago. The Bears don’t have too many established wide receivers on their current roster. If there is a situation Pettis could show his true potential this is the right spot.
Contract details have yet to be released.
