Clearing up Confusion about NCAA Recruiting Suspensions

Clearing up Confusion about NCAA Recruiting Suspensions

It was announced earlier today that the NCAA has mandated all D1 recruiting activities to halt until April 15th. Since then a lot of questions have been asked about how this effects UW’s recruiting efforts at this time.

To be clear, this is on and off-campus activities. Similar to Dead Period. It does not restrict coaches from texting, phone calls, and FaceTime.

Where we will see restrictions is in things such as 7 on 7 tournaments, combines (Under Armour, NIKE, etc).

The Huskies are still on track to begin spring football practices on April 1st, however, there’s no definitive word yet on whether or not the spring game will be effected by the 250-people ban.

At this point this doesn’t really “hurt” recruiting for anyone, it just slows down the influx of recruits taking unofficial visits to campuses around the country.

It does keep local guys home, however. Guys like Emeka Egbuka and others from leaving the state to take unofficial trips.

Also, Husky safety target JD Coffey was just on campus earlier this week and was scheduled to go to LSU on Saturday, now that’s not going to happen.

The NCAA will allow coaches to begin spring evaluations to begin on schedule on April 15th, until further notice.

Right now we’re in Quiet Period, which means that coaches cannot make off-campus contacts.

Jimmy Lake said today that this “a very fluid situation”, and that “The UW coaching staff has the capability to send the players workout plans should player not be able to return from Spring Break.”

That applies to current Huskies on the roster who have or will return home for spring break.
