Class of 2023: 4-Star QB Commit Talks Washington Coaches Visit

As It turns out, Thursday Night Lights in South Dakota is a good thing.  Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb got an extra 1,283 air miles as they flew to Pierre, South Dakota Thursday night to see their prized quarterback-commit Lincoln Kienholz in action.

It took a couple of scheduling oddities to lineup to make the visit happen.  Firstly, the Huskies are idle this week and the coaches are fanning out across the county evaluating and sending out offers.  Then, typically high school football games are on Fridays, but Kienholz’s and his reigning state champion Governors were in action Thursday night.

Those two events lining up was the solution to the problem of city of Pierre not being the most convenient of locations.

Earlier this year, during Spring Football, Grubb took an off day in the middle of the week to check out Kienholz in a private 30-minute workout—followed by an offer.

As Grubb regularly does with his play-calling and what he did in the Spring visit, he got creative with his flight plan— adding DeBoer for this journey to the South Dakota state capitol.

The pair got to see the 4-star signal caller play the first half, accounting for 35 of the Governors’ 42 points and running their record to 10-0 on the season.

The 42-14 victory over Sturgis Brown is also Kienholz’s 13th consecutive victory as a starter and 29th in 33 tries as a starter, going back to the beginning of his sophomore campaign.

He complete 12 of 18 passes for 154 yards, four going for touchdowns.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 35 yards and a TD.

“They said I played really good,” Kienholz said.

TF Riggs will now use the extra day to prepare for next Friday’s home playoff game against Yankton High School.

Kienholz also noted that he feels the support of Husky Nation as he wraps up his senior season.

”I have had many (Husky Fans) reach out and give me support throughout this process,” he said.
