Catching up with 2021 commit Caleb Berry

Keith Bhonapha got a future star out of Lufkin (Texas) High School in running back Caleb Berry. Currently standing at 6’2, 210 pounds, Berry said that he wants to get up to 220 before he arrives on campus. He also has some big plans for when he gets to campus.

“I can’t wait to soak in the full campus experience,” said Berry. “I really enjoyed my time there on my visits, but I’m sure it’ll be even better when I’m there full time.”

Husky fans are going to love what they’re getting from Berry on the field as well. “I’ve really been working on being more physical, and trying to become a better receiver out of the backfield,” he explained. “I’m willing to do whatever I can to help the team, and I believe I can do that as both a receiver and a runner.” He said that this is the first year that he was really involved in his offense as a pass catcher, and thinks that there’s nowhere to go but up with his potential in the receiving game.

He prides himself on his vision, and is trying to combine that with more physicality. “Coach Bhonapha told me that he wants me to work on being more physical, and at my size, I feel like that came easy to me.”

Bhonapha and Berry have developed a great relationship over the past year. “We’re pretty close,” Berry said of Bhonapha, “He shows me what I need to learn, and I really take everything he says to heart.”

Berry is also working back from a broken leg that he suffered during his senior year, and should be back at full strength by the time he arrives on campus. He said that’s he really close to being back to 100% healthy, and should be a full go for all workouts by the time he enrolls at Washington.
