Cali’s Dyson McCutcheon talks about Husky Offer

With 22 offers now, Bishop Amat High School (Claremont, CA) corner, Dyson McCutcheon talked to Realdawg.com today about the offer from Washington he received earlier today.

If that names sounds familiar, it’s because this McCutcheon comes from a football family; his father played for USC back in the late 90’s before going to the league, and his grandfather also was a standout in college and had a nine-year NFL career.

“I learned everything I know from my dad”, the 5-10, 170 lb. corner told us, but being taught and then actually putting all of that to use on the football field has been entirely on Dyson — and he’s done just what he needs to do to grab the attention of those 22 schools who have now offered.

He’s fast, elusive, shows excellent football smarts and instincts, and his coverage skills are on point. Dyson also plays offense so he’s strong at reading the quarterback and knows their tendencies.

McCutcheon has all the intangibles to be an elite, lock-down corner. He’s grossly underrated on the networks, but what else is new?

Look at his offer list and then explain where that fourth star is…

Obviously he has a great pedigree and has been around the game all of his life, and began being tutored by his father as a young child, “As I got older he put in more detail”, he said.

Washington, known for their defensive backs going high in the draft, saw how special this player is and made the offer.

Jimmy Lake and Harris spoke to Dyson and his parents today on Zoom and that’s how the offer came down, “It was huge”, he said, adding that his family was equally excited and proud of their son.

Now that natural question would be: What about USC?

“They just haven’t been in contact as much since they changed their (defensive) staff”, Dyson said.

Dyson was in Seattle back in 2016 and saw the Huskies play, “That’s when John Ross was playing”, he said. He also said his “uncle” played for the Huskies; Jason Harris.

“He’s not really my uncle, he’s a real good friend”, Dyson said, “I just call him my uncle”.

But the Huskies are in a strong place right now for McCutcheon and making that offer now was crucial; he wants to narrow his list “soon” and yet he’s had a tough time sorting it all out due to the COVID-19 setbacks.

“It’s hard to get a feel (for colleges)”, he said about not being able to take any trips, “It’s just been harder with COVID.”

But he has been on the UW campus, even if it was when he played for Snoopdawg’s team back in the eighth grade — Jayson certainly knows what the University of Washington is all about.
