BREAKING: Washington Loses Recruiting Coordinator/DB Coach to Belichick, North Carolina

BREAKING: Washington Loses Recruiting Coordinator/DB Coach to Belichick, North Carolina

RealDawg has confirmed that defensive back coach Mondo Hawkins will be joining the Bill Belichick/Steve Belichick staff at the University of North Carolina.

Regarded as a top up-and-coming coach and recruiter, Hawkins arrived at Washington with the Jedd Fisch’s coaching staff a year ago.

Hawkins has been rapidly ascending the coaching ranks.  In addition to his role as a defensive analyst and defensive backs coach, Hawkins was also an assistant recruiting coordinator for the Huskies.

A University of Idaho graduate, Hawkins worked as the director of high school relations at USC and a recruiting staffer 2020 and 2021.  He held the same position at Colorado in 2023 before joining Fisch in Arizona.

Keith Heyward, a former Washington assistant under Chris Petersen seems like an unlikely replacement as he’s taking time away from football to focus on his family.

It seemed a big odd that defensive back Peyton Waters entered the transfer portal a few days ago, then joined the Tar Heels, but that move makes sense now.  Additionally, linebacker Khmori House, wide receiver Jason Robinson, Jr. have also transferred to Chapel Hill.

Hanging in the balance is the Thaddeus Dixon, who played for Washington the past two seasons.  The junior college transfer has an extra year of eligibility with a recent ruling by the NCAA.  However, when the Huskies added Arizona-transfer Tacario Davis, Dixon jumped into the portal.
