The Washington Huskies have managed to flip 4-star offensive lineman John Mills from Saint Ignatius High School in California.
“The family aspect was important,” he said of his treatment from the Husky staff and the his family’s legacy at UW. “It is great seeing my family up there but also understand that the need for me.”
Mills will part of the 5th generation of the Ryan family to attend the University of Washington.
His grandfather Joe Ryan played tackle on the 1964 Rose Bowl team, and Washington’s famed tunnel is officially called the Ryan Family Tunnel after him.
Mills listed Washington in his Top 6 ahead of his official visit to Seattle the weekend of June 1 and has put UW.
However the 4-star chose Texas over USC, Cal, Florida, Nebraska and Washington.
”It was a tough decision,” he said. “I went back and forth between Washington and Texas.”
I want to thank God for putting me in this position. With that being said here is my Top 6. @CoachVandermade @jlawson707 @myleskholmes @TheCoachBear @BrandonHuffman pic.twitter.com/RBXqS5kqBg

The 6-6-1/2 and 345 offensive tackle will join his cousin, Jack Enger who was a pitcher for UW, finishing his career in 2022. Jack’s father, Kyle, rowed at UW. And their grandfather, Joe Ryan, played football for Jim Owens in the 1960s, playing in the 1964 Rose Bowl.
Washington’s newest commit was at Husky Stadium several years ago when Washington’s famed tunnel was named The Ryan Family Tunnel.
Beyond the family connection the nation’s number 35 offensive tackle (Rivals) has a strong connection with Washington offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, Brennan Carroll, dating back to his days at Arizona.
”Arizona was my 8th offer,” he said. “My goal is to make it to the NFL and Coach Carroll understands what it takes to get there.”
Although he didn’t get to watch the entire Washington-Oregon game Saturday, he did like the schemes he saw.
“It was evident that they need some new offensive linemen” he said.
His connection with other Husky commits was a factor, as well.
“I have a great connection with some recruits up there, as well,” he told RealDawg. “I was just talking work Dash (Beierly, Washington’s QB commit) there other day and Jake Flores.”
The Huskies, under Kalen DeBoer were the first to offer Mills back in the Summer of 2022 before his recruiting truly took off.
RealDawg will have more on Mills commitment shortly.
