BREAKING: Huskies will get another year from Onwuzurike

In the wake of quarterback Jacob Eason announcing today that he would go to the draft, Husky defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike made a short and sweet announcement on Twitter.

“I’m staying”, the tweet read.

The first team All Pac-12 lineman will stay for another year rather than hop to the draft.

Onwuzurike has been a huge presence on the inside for the Huskies the past two seasons; finishing 2019 with 45 tackles and two sacks, and he will continue to be a force for Washington going into his fifth year.

2019: Played in all 12 games, starting 11 (all but the WSU game, when UW opened with six defensive backs) … earned All-Pac-12 first-team honors … also named to Pro Football Focus and Associated Press All-Pac-12 second team … made Phil Steele All-America honorable mention and All-Pac-12 first team … earned honorable mention on the preseason All-Pac-12 team … three tackles vs. California … two stops in the UW win over Hawai’i … four tackles, including half of a sack, in the win at BYU … made five tackles in the victory over USC, earning honors as the UW coaches’ lineman of the week … made nine tackles, one of them for a loss, at Stanford … blocked a punt in the UW win at Arizona, for which he earned the UW coaches’ special teams player of the week award … six tackles, including half of a tackle for loss, vs. Oregon … seven tackles, one and a half tackles for loss and a sack against Utah … two tackles, including half of a sack, at Oregon State, after which he was named the UW coaches’ lineman of the week … two tackles, including a sack, at Colorado … one stop in the Apple Cup win over WSU … winner of the L. Wait Rising Lineman of the Year Award at the team’s postseason awards banquet.

2018: Played in all 14 games, making four starts … three tackles against Auburn in the season opener … made one tackle in the win over North Dakota … two stops in the win at Utah and also against Arizona State … two tackles, one of them for a loss, in a start vs. BYU … made a career-high five tackles in the win at UCLA, earning the Husky coaches’ lineman of the week award … career-high eight tackles at Oregon … four tackles, including two for a loss and a sack, in the Husky win over Colorado … named the UW coaches’ lineman of the week for the win over CU … two tackles, including a sack, at California … made one tackle – for a loss – in the Husky win over Stanford … three tackles, including half of a tackle for loss, in the Husky win over Oregon State … had a nine-yard sack against Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.
