With a new defensive coordinator comes some new members of the defensive staff. one of those such members is former NFL safety Taylor Mays.
A Seattle native, Mays attended O’Dea high school from 2006-2009 and was a second round NFL draft pick out of USC in 2010. After six years in the NFL Mays got his first coaching job at USC in 2022 as a defensive analyst and was the interim safeties coach for the Trojans in December 2023.
Not only is Taylor Mays a local, but his father Stafford was a defensive tackle for the Huskies in the 70s and is currently coaching at Taylor Mays’s alma mater O’Dea high school.
Because of the local ties Mays may brings some expertise to the in-state recruiting with his ties to local high schools.
The former all-American safety will take over as the UW safeties coach for new defensive coordinator Ryan Walters as his first full time positional coaching gig. With plenty of high level experience he will make for an exciting new addition to the UW defensive staff.
