After a stunning 48 hours that saw former head coach Kalen DeBoer depart for Tuscaloosa to coach the Alabama Crimson Tide, Washington has announced Jedd Fisch will take over.

As the former head coach of the Arizona Wildcats, Fisch led a massive turnaround for the program in 2023, taking a five-win team in 2022 and turning it into a 10-3 season with an Alamo Bowl victory over Oklahoma. Fisch is an offensive-minded coach who has spent time in the NFL as an offensive coordinator and QB position coach before reviving a struggling Arizona program.
Fisch will also provide a spark in recruiting for the Huskies, who were lackluster in rankings under DeBoer. Fisch took one of the worst roster situations in the FBS and turned it into a winning program in just two years through high school recruiting and the transfer portal. He will have all the necessary resources to make those big leaps at Washington and restore the talent lost this past week.
The Huskies will be able to regain their offensive firepower under Fisch, as the Wildcats averaged 34.6 points per game last season behind the Huskies’ 36 points per game. Fisch will also be able to provide essential talent through the portal, with quarterback Noah Fifita and Tetairoa McMillan rumored to join Fisch in Seattle. With many Husky players entering the transfer portal, Fisch has the opportunity to lure many of them back.
Fisch instantly brings needed coaching experience to the Huskies, beginning his coaching career in 1997 and working under many established head coaches at the collegiate level and the NFL. In 2010, Fisch worked as a quarterbacks coach under Pete Carroll for the Seattle Seahawks, giving him ties to the Pacific Northwest.
Because of his extensive coaching experience in the NFL spending 14 years with eight different teams, it wouldn’t be a surprise if NFL teams come knocking in the future. Since Fisch has NFL aspirations, a $20 million buyout is a great way for Washington to monetize the inevitable if someone tries to get him to return to the pros.
The new era for Husky football is here with Jedd Fisch, and he provides the experience to bring in a talented offense that will compete immediately with the rest of the Big 10.
