Big Game Hunter: Rosengarten First of Offensive Lineman from 2020 Class to Start

Coming out of Valor Christian in the Denver, Colorado suburb of Highlands Ranch, Washington’s starting right tackle, Roger Rosengarten loved fishing and hunting.  Although he never bagged a big buck or reeled in a big fish as a kid he could always be counted on in big games as a player.

Known for rising to the occasion in big games, in the Colorado State High School Quarterfinal game in basketball Rosengarten ripped off 18 points.  After a VCHS basket the 6-6 future Husky was laying-in-wait (as much as someone 6-6 and nearly 300 pounds can) and waited for the opposition to inbound the ball.

“Once the guard got it and started to dribble up the court, Roger picked him clean from behind,” his father Ray “Rosey” Rosengarten recalled.

The future Husky tackle drove to the hoop, made the bucket, was fouled in the act of shooting, dropped the free throw for a 3-point play.  Seconds later, he stole the ball again and dropped in three, 6 points in just a few seconds.  Not long after that, he took an inbounds pass and found the bottom of the net again with a baby sky hook.

Eight of his 8 points came in the biggest moments of the game to put the game out of reach.

After that the state tournament was canceled before he was able to take his game to an even bigger stage.

The 2020-signee will get his shot on a much bigger stage, national TV, and keep his left-handed QB Michael Penix, Jr out of reach of on-coming pass rushers.  Now tasked with guarding Penix’s blind side at right tackle, he was one of the headliners in a recruiting class that included backups Myles Murao and at right guard and left guard Gierean Hatchett.

Rosengarten had some well-documented bumps in the road to the starting lineup to begin Fall Camp, but things smoothed out for him as he found his footing and himself in the starting lineup.

Across the board the physically remade offensive line is leaner, especially with Jaxson Kirkland out.  The heaviest is left tackle Troy Fautanu at 312 pounds, while they average 306 pounds.

In two weeks the stage will be even bigger when Michigan State comes to Husky Stadium in two weeks.  Perfect timing for a kid from Colorado who is at his best in big games.
