Bernard, Mells, and Jones: Vegas Connection Growing Strong for Huskies

The three Seattle visitors talked to Realdawg.com about their weekend in Seattle.

Bernard, Mells, and Jones: Vegas Connection Growing Strong for Huskies

After a weekend trip to Seattle, 2022 Vegas prospects, Sir Mells, Anthony Jones, and already-committed wideout, Germie Bernard are feeling pretty good about what Washington has shown them.

Bernard has been committed since July, but his teammates from Liberty High School wanted to get up to see the University — and the city — up close.

While Jones and Mells haven’t yet been offered, it doesn’t mean they won’t be.

“I have been talking with Coach Malloe for about nine months now”, Mells, who’s 6-4, 315 and plays d-tackle told Realdawg.com, “We talk literally every week from text messages to facetime calls.”

While Jones, who’s 6-4, 235 and plays TE/DE has continued to build a strong relationship both with Derham Cato and Pete Kwiatkowski.

“I talked to Coach Cato before the game and then I was texting both of them after the game to congratulate them. I will definitely be talking to them soon.”

Bernard is more convinced than ever that his decision to become a Husky was the best decision he could have made; while in Seattle he had a chance to hang out with Sam Huard — his future quarterback, “Spending time with Sam was great…just trying to build our bond more for when we get there together.”

But even more important was that Bernard rubbed some shoulders with 2021 target, Emeka Egbuka and 2022 WR prospect, Tobias Merriweather.

So this past weekend, that not only saw the Huskies beat Arizona, but beat them like a red-headed stepchild, might have paved the way for some serious movement with all of these targets.

Washington was pretty deep at d-tackle but the loss of Sama Paama may have opened the door to take a 2022 interior lineman like Mells, and with his versatility on either offense or defense, Jones is definitely a guy who the Huskies are getting serious about.

So after having said all of this, here’s some quotes each of these recruits gave us following their return home from the weekend in Seattle.

Sir Mells:

“Seattle is beautiful — I could definitely see myself calling Seattle home for the next 3-4 years. Everything about Seattle was beautiful; the trees, the weather, the people.

“We watched the game at our Air BNB — the defense played so physical –they had all 11 hats to the ball. I could definitely see myself playing with that defense”.

Has Ikaika Malloe talked about offering yet?

“Yes he has He said my class is really tough this year due to…COVID, but yes he has talked about offering me”.

Anthony Jones:

“It was awesome — I loved the scenery, the air quality, and of course the campus. Seattle is second to none.

And the game?

“I knew they were going to do well but they came out with some fire power and didn’t let up. The energy was next level and I liked how they were talking about running the ball all week so Arizona was preparing for the run — so they aired it out more than expected.

“I love how they use a variety of tight ends and they have different tight ends that have different roles. Cade is an amazing tight end all around, great blocker and a great pass catcher. He’s everything you want in a tight end and by watching him it will definitely help my game out a lot as an offensive player.”

As for working out and throwing with Sam Huard?

“It was really cool getting to work out with Sam ;he’s a top tier guy and a really chill dude. He showed me some new routes and fixed me up on some little things. FSP is a next level of training and the people there made me feel very welcomed and it felt family oriented. It was really hard work but I loved it.

Germie Bernard:

“Seattle trip was great, we couldn’t everything we wanted but still had a fun time. Feels like home. They played amazing — especially in those new uniforms.

“Spending time with Sam was great just trying to build our bond more for when we get there together.”

Keep in mind that Bernard has been in Seattle and on the campus unofficially before.

These were not unofficial trips, however. The three recruits had to keep their distance from coaches as it is still dead period, but they were still able to tour the campus on their own.

My opinion? I expect that Mells’ and Jones’ stock is going to rise soon….
