“Three, six, nine,” counted off the PA announcer at the Manning Passing Academy final day’s Air-It-Out Challenge Washington quarterback Demond Williams stood heads above the rest of the competitors, winning the challenge.
In hitting 9 of 12 stationary and moving targets of various depths, he became the second Washington quarterback to take home the title in the last three years.
His 75-percent accuracy was actually worse than he threw in games in last season.
In the accuracy challenge Washington’s sophomore signal-caller all competitors including leading Heisman-contenders Arch Manning of Texas, LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, and Cade Klubnik from Clemson, as well Gunner Stockton of Georgia, Alabama’s Ty Simpson, and Penn State’s Drew Allar—to name a few.
“His accuracy has always been one of his greatest assets,” noted RealDawg.com’s Trevor Mueller. “Sure, he has quick feet, but he’s a pass-first QB who consistently hits his receivers at all levels.”
To that point, Willams had nearly 400 yards rushing but that 282 reflects net yards, subtracting his 10 sacks against Oregon last year.
However, this event was all about passing the ball accurately which Williams excels at. He hit 75-percent
Last season he had an overall completion percentage of 78.1 including hitting his receivers on an impressive 83-percent clip in the final 2 games (at Oregon, in Sun Bowl) v Louisville), which he started.
So, in reality, that he was flanked by two Super Bowl-winning Mannings, Eli on the podium isn’t surprising to people in Seattle, Louisville, nor Eugene.
Likewise, the summer before Michael Penix led the Washington Huskies to the College Football Playoffs National Championship Game, Penix took home the Manning Passing Academy title as the most accurate passer.
Now, 2 years later, UW’s sophomore QB has followed suit claiming the 2025 title.
