Washington extended an offer to Casteel High School (Arizona) wideout, Isaiah Newcombe.
The 6-1, 175 lb. son of former Nebraska Cornhusker QB, Bobby Newcombe, spoke to Realdawg.com about what this offer means to him.
“It’s a big one”, Newcombe said, “Washington is a great program.”
Junior Adams spoke with Newcombe’s father, Bobby first, and then spoke with Isaiah to make the offer.
“I get along real good with Coach Adams”, Newcombe said, “He’s been sending me motivational videos…we talk a lot.”
On the field Newcombe is a fast, imposing receiver. His hands are silky smooth and he simply possesses all the intangibles you want to see in a receiver at the next level. He can play the deep ball with speed and accuracy, but he’s also a guy who has the ability to not get jammed at the line of scrimmage due to his athleticism.
Last season he accumulated close to 1000 yards receiving on 60 catches, and it’s his speed that has stuck out the most to opposing coaches, but his own father gave him sound advice about what makes an overall strong receiver, “If you can’t block, you can’t play”, he told his son.
Right now Newcombe holds 19 total offers, and some have him picked to UCLA, “They do say that because I visited there during spring break”, he explained, “There were some pictures of me on my Instagram and Twitter in a UCLA jersey.”
And what about his dad’s alma mater?
“I don’t really know anything about them right now”, he said, noting that recruiting has been slow between him and the Husker staff.
Newcombe really wants to get up to Seattle for a trip, “I know that my dad played a game there and said it was super loud in that stadium”, he said, “I definitely would love to get up there and check out it — I know it’s a great school.”
Newcombe plans to narrow things down by the 15th of this month after he takes the ACT, “And commit before the season starts”, he said.
