A Look at the New Faces in the Secondary at Washington

The 2022 season was a resounding success of the Washington program. One position group that had issues especially during the two-game losing streak is the secondary. Injuries took its toll on the position group throughout the season which led to explosive plays through the air.

There will be spots open throughout the secondary in the 2023 season with the graduation of Jordan Perryman and Alex Cook with other positions open for competition.

The staff addressed this in the 2023 recruiting class. Three of the top five and seven overall recruits will be installed in the Huskies cornerback or safety rooms this coming spring and fall.

Here is a quick look at what each brings to the program.

Caleb Presley 6-0 180 Seattle, WA: Presley comes in at the top of the class. He is the best cover corner in the class with exceptional ball skills. He will be enrolling in the Winter term. DeBoer mentioned on Dave Mahler’s radio show that he will be a factor in the rotation in the fall.

Curley Reed 6-1 185 Lake Charles, LA: Reed is an extremally physical corner. He is really effective around the line of scrimmage. He uses his body well to bully receivers off their routes. He could be a candidate to be groomed for the Husky position.

Vincent Holmes San Jacinto, 6-0 180 CA: Think Budda Baker or vintage Earl Thomas. He is listed on 247 as an athlete but projects to be an elite free safety. He covers a ton of ground and takes away options for opposing quarterbacks.

Leroy Bryant 6-0 175 Fairfield, CA: Physically tough with a high motor. Will need to develop coverage skills, his work ethic will force him into action after work in the program.

Diesel Gordon 6-1 175 Arlington, TX: Another versatile athlete who could play free safety or a corner position. He plays the ball well has quick hip movements.

Thaddeus Dixon 5-11.5 187 Long Beach, CA: The JUCO transfer is really impressive in coverage. He has shown the ability to lock up college level receivers and will factor into the conversation early in his career on Montlake.

Transfer Jabbar Muhammad 5-10 175 Oklahoma State: Pro Football Focus’s top rated corner for the Cowboys last year. He plays the outside and has been effective at the power five level as a starter.
