The Washington Huskies fell in spectacular fashion to the Washington State Cougars in the first Apple Cup to take place in the month of September.

The positives are few in a game marred with so many mistakes, but the teaching tape from this game is one of them. If the Huskies clean up just a few miscues at different points in this contest the result would be drastically different with the Huskies most likely winning and covering the five-point spread.

Instead The Huskies committed 16 penalties for 135 free yards for the Cougs and a loss in the Apple Cup for the first time since Bob Gregory acted as interim head coach.

As the season turns to conference play the offense must play better if they are to compete in the Big 10. This loss must serve as the wakeup call for the Dawgs or bowl season will be in question.
