4th and Inches Podcast: Offensive Preview
One thing the casual fan knew about Kalen DeBoer before any deep dives into his coaching resume was that he has good offenses. He was the coordinator who turned Indiana into a watchable product for a season with Michael Penix during the 2020 season, and he was the head coach of the Fresno State team that took Oregon to the brink in 2021. Former Husky quarterback Jake Haener had two costly fumbles that came back to bite them as their narrowly lost 24-31 to the 11th ranked team in the nation.
Now the nation has been put on notice about the Washington Huskies and headlined by the Heisman candidate, Michael Penix. Penix was electric last year throwing for over 4,600 yards and 31 touchdowns while leading the Dawgs to an 11-2 record and finishing ranked #8 in the country.
This year DeBoer and offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, have most of the major contributors back for another season. They can get deeper into the playbook, and will continue to build on the trust that was built in 2022.
There are some questions to be answered especially across the interior offensive live where the Huskies will have to replace each position. As of right now it looks like the starters will be LG: Julius Buelow C: Matteo Mele RG: Nate Kalepo. The theme heard around the program is the unit might be an upgrade from the group that has moved on via graduation.
Trevor Mueller is joined by Coach V who is an high coach, offensive analyst, and a respected scout amongst Husky fans. Coach V explains the efficiency of the Washington offense and previews each position group and the production that is available in the 2023 season.
