Another linebacker from Las Vegas is chasing some long odds–maybe not as long as what Washington linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio faced, but class of 2025 Arbor View High LB Jeremiah Ioane (pronounced Yo-ahh-nay) is working just as hard. Listed at 6-2 and 210 pounds, Ioane is another Vegas linebacker who bet on himself.
Ioane is actually rated ahead of where Ulofoshio was heading into his senior year at Bishop Gorman and he’s heading into his junior campaign. For his part, the former Husky walk-on, now on scholarship, was ranked No. 2629 in the country by 247Sports and was holding offers from Northern Arizona and Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
Then a 2-star LB, Ulofoshio was not about to get caught between Moon Township and New York City. He looked at what West Coast schools offered him the best opportunity and he bet on himself and chose to walk-on at UW in the class of 2018.
Like Ulofoshio, Ioane is betting on himself as he visits schools in the West.
Here are his defensive highlights at Liberty last season.
Ioane is a bit ahead of Uloshoio at this point in his high school career, being rated as a 3-star linebacker and has reeled in 5 offers. On a recent visit to Arizona, he was offered by former Washington coach Johnny Nansen, who is now the Wildcats’ defensive coordinator. He also has offers from Oregon State, Portland State, Colorado State, and Nevada. Ulofoshio was rated the 196th
He’s a case-study in self-promotion as he’s focused on creating his own path to scholarships through social media which mirrors his sideline-to-sideline, full-effort on the field. On Twitter, he is continually posting workout content, words of inspiration, and a promise to be a valued member of whatever team offers him.
“I’m grateful to be in this position,” he said. “I’m thankful for every offer I receive and I’m working hard to prove those coaches right.”
His path to Power 5 offers now goes through Arbor View transferring there this off-season 35 minutes north from Liberty. He embraces the challenges ahead at Arbor View as his new school’s two losses last season were to Liberty and Bishop Gorman.
“I’m a competitor,” he said about the upcoming season and the prospect of facing the two Nevada powerhouses. “Competition makes you better, you just can’t back down.”
While schools are recruiting him as a linebacker he also plays running back in some short-yardage situations. He’ll be visiting the Huskies on a big recruiting weekend that will have UW commits EJ Caminong and former Liberty teammate Landon Bell.
“Washington’s a great program and I’ve heard so many great things from Landon that I just can’t wait to get out there,” he said.
He’s also heard great things from former Washington commits Anthony Jones and Sir Mells who ended up at Oregon before entering the transfer portal, and of course current Washington receiver, Germie Bernard.
“They’ve all told me about how the school is,” he said. “I’m really excited to see the campus.”
And with it being an unofficial visit, the trip will come out of his own pocket–in other words, he’s betting on himself like Ulofoshio.
When he’s not on a visit, on Twitter, you’ll find him working out “getting 1-percent better every day. I love the game, everything about it,” he said.
