2023 WR working hard for UDUB offer

2023 WR working hard for UDUB offer

“I feel like it’s the dream of every kid growing up in Washington to play for the Huskies,” said Ashton Cozart, a 2023 wide receiver who’s currently living in Richland, Texas. Before moving to Texas in 2020 to be closer to family, Cozart lived in Puyallup, Washington, and trained alongside a lot of current Huskies at Ford Sports Performance. “Working out with a lot of UDUB guys, knowing how great the facilities are, the school means a lot to me. Ever since I was playing FBU, we would practice at Washington, so it has been a big part of my life for a long time.”

Currently measuring in at 6’3 and 180 pounds, Cozart holds 14 offers, and a few of them are standing out to him. “I’m really interested in Miami, Texas, Florida, and TCU at this moment. I’ve also been talking a lot with USC, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, and Cal,” he said.

Cozart said he’s very happy with his move to Texas, and while he misses Washington, he knows that playing football in the Lone Star State has done a lot for his national exposure. “I feel that some [high school] programs are a little more geared towards their football, and the competition down here is second to none,” he said.

On the field, Cozart has the mentality every receiver should go into a rep with. “I pride myself on my mentality, I never feel pressured, I know exactly what I’m doing, and I know I’m going to win,” he said. “It comes from all the reps and all the work that I put in. I feel like that’s more important than just having the speed and athleticism needed to succeed.”

It would be a dream come true for Cozart to earn an offer from Washington and have the chance to return home, where he grew up in the shadow of one of the best receivers in Husky history. “One of my favorite memories is the only game at Husky Stadium I was able to attend, when Dante Pettis broke the NCAA punt return touchdown record against Oregon in 2017,” Cozart said.

If he can have another strong campaign in Texas during the 2021 scene, expect him to continue to build up steam on the national circuit. No matter what, there’s one offer Cozart is holding out hope for, and he’s hoping for that to come soon from wide receivers coach Junior Adams.
