The message board arguments can now end. Lincoln High School ATH Jayden Wayne received his offer from the Huskies today after taking a Zoom call from Jimmy Lake.
“It’s a very big offer”, the 6-5, 225 lb. Tacoma prospect told Realdawg.com, “It’s home.”
There was a lot of debate recently about whether or not the Huskies would offer, but timing is everything and Washington wanted to do it in person, but because of COVID restrictions, that was impossible.
“I’ve been there four times already”, Wayne said of seeing Washington up close, he’s been to games and to camp.
Wayne is a special and gifted athlete; while the Huskies like him at OLB/DE, he also can play tight end and Washington would give him that opportunity.
“I’ll play wherever they want me”, Wayne said.
But on the field he’s a cross between Evan Ingram (Giants) and DeMarcus Lawrence (Cowboys). You could even sprinkle in a little Cam Newton because Wayne is a guy who could excel at several levels.
(Lawrence, incidentally, was coached up by Pete Kwiatkowski in college).
His length and quickness are big strengths on the field, and he’s even played quarterback during his young career (7th and 8th grade).
Wayne has a real good wing span and is a natural whose ceiling is incredibly high at this point. He already has offers from Oregon, Tennessee, Cal, USC, Nebraska, Georgetown, and Cal.
And you can bet more will come now that the home-state school has offered.
“Jimmy Lake is real energetic”, Wayne said, “He’s going to be good.”
And despite fan’s questioning of whether or not Washington would step up their efforts for Wayne, he’s been talking to Kwiatkowski every week for several weeks now.
And is the pull to stay home going to be strong down the stretch?
“Yes ma’am”, Wayne quipped, adding that his family is very excited about this offer.”
At the age of 16 right now, Wayne said he does plan to go through the process — but you have to like Washington’s chance at this early juncture of that process.
