Realdawg.com spoke with newly-committed 2021 defensive back, Zakhari Spears this morning, and he explained why he had chosen the Huskies as his college destination.
“It felt amazing to get this done”, Spears reported, “I texted Coach Lake…he was ecstatic. Coach Harris said he’s pumped to coach me up and build that relationship.”
Spears was on campus earlier in the week with his father, and that trip pretty much sealed the deal.
“This is my home”, Spears said.
Why Washington?
“My dream is to get to the NFL”, he explained, “And the amount of DB’s they get to the league is astounding — they’re tops in the nations. And the academics…is second to none.”
Spears also expressed his appreciation and love for the relationships at Washington, “Coach Lake and Coach Harris facetime’d my dad and me”, he said, “Coach Harris has been evaluating me since June.”
Another Husky connection that Spears has is Myles Bryant, a Loyola High School alum, “I talked to him and he just said “L’et get to to work!”, I said “Yes sir”, Spears said.
At 6-3, 182, Spears is a rangy corner who plays with a chip on his shoulder and hits like a brick. His closing speed is hard to miss. He’s a little similar to Kevin King after King went to corner, but Spears plays fast and physical and could wind up playing anywhere in the secondary under Jimmy Lake’s system.
